Ontario Centres of Excellence Mind to Market Program

This is officially my (Ross Orr’s) first attempt at writing a blog of any sort so please bear with me. My intent for our blog is to provide colour background to what normally are very dull, rigid and heavy edited press releases that tend to cause one’s eyes to gloss.

Even though we attempt to keep our releases relatively short there is a tendency to write about mining and environmental issues where we assume that you, the reader, understand the issues that we take for granted. In other words I need to get down off my high horse and attempt to write in a “bioleaching 101” format. So, my goal will be to write on this blog, after every press release we issue, a layman’s version of what is in the PR. Throw out the flowery words and cut to the chase.

In this inaugural blog we have something better than words. Video:

This video was filmed and edited (and paid for) by the Ontario Center of Excellence or OCE. The OCE drives the development of Ontario's economy by helping create new jobs, products, services, technologies and businesses. In partnership with industry and academia, OCE co-invests to commercialize innovation originating in the province's colleges, universities and research hospitals (their words not mine).

In August 30 companies were entered into a competition to win a cash price of $25,000 from OCE. The title of the program was called Mind to Market or in other words companies that work closely with universities and colleges to move lab scale work to commercialization. I’m happy to say that we were 1 of 3 finalists for the award but in the same breath I am sorry to say we didn’t win. But we got this cool video and a lot of exposure for bioleaching.

Hats off to Nadia Mykytczuk, our fearless leader at Laurentian U and her tireless sidekick, Madiha Khan. If we had to pay Madiha by the hour we would surely be broke. In any event, enjoy the short clip and pass it along to anyone you think would enjoy it. I also snuck in the 1 pager from the program so you can who we were up against.
